History of Essential Flavours

• Our history milestone
Essential Flavours and Ingredients have been developing and manufacturing flavours in Australia since its inception in 1989 and still remains a 100% family owned Australian business. Our range of flavours encompasses both liquid and powder varieties and covers a wide variety of tastes.  We are now supplying flavours to a variety of manufacturers across the Food, Beverage and Pharmaceutical industries both locally and a number of other countries.

With our dedicated teams in Commercial and Operations all functioning out of the same facility this allows us to be very nimble as a company.


In 2004 Essential Flavour attained HACCP certification this was then upgraded to SQF Code (Edition 7.2) certification in 2013, this gives our client comfort knowing that we are looking after the quality of their products.  All production in this building follows the same procedure, whether is a small sample or one of our larger orders.

We have the capability to develop and manufacture both liquid and powder flavours onsite and with the recent addition of a GC/MS system with headspace analysis we can now offer a superior matching ability to assist with cost reduction or supplier rationalisation.

THE START
Essential was founded by John Nielsen, after he identified an opportunity for a customer focused flavour house to provide Australian made flavours to food and beverage industry.

MOVED TO NEUTRON PLACE TAKE ONE
This facility allowed essential to expanded both their flavour development and production capabilities

INVESTED IN OUR 1ˢᵗ GCMS
We have always had a strong technical focus and this was part of our commitment in the early days

BEGUN DEVELOPMENT IN ENCAPSULATED FLAVOURS
We purchased our 1ST pilot spray dryer and started learning about the world of encapsulated flavours

MOVED FOR 8 NEUTRON PLACE
While Sydney was hosting the Olympic games, Essential was moving into their third facility. Due to continued growth, we required a customer renovated premise allowing for expanded technical laboratories, larger liquid production capacity and the ability to warehouse.

ACHIEVED HCAAP ACCREDITATION
Quality assurance and quality control has always been core elements of our business and achieving our HCAAP accreditation was critical step along our path to our continuous improvement in the area of quality.

Hosted our 1st global conference

Moved to 15 Network Drive
Essential designed and built a word class flavour facility to meet three main goals, 1 network of laboratories that would inspire flavour creation and application testing, 2 production systems that is allowed capacity for future growth and 3 creating an environment that our team would enjoy working in.

LAUNCHED FLAVOUR ACADEMY
As part of our commitment to be a technical lead flavour house was to create Flavour Academy to share knowledge and love of all things flavour related with the food, beverage and nutraceutical industry.

EXPAND INTO ASIA
Essential was very proud to open our first facility in Asia, that had been designed to offer our clients in Asia the same technically based customer support that we provide in Australia. Our ISO facility is in HCMC in Vietnam began with application laboratories, production and warehousing.

ACHIEVED SQF ACCREDITATION
Building on HACCP and other process based programs our commitment to quality assurance and quality control reached a new level when we achieved SQF accreditation Level 3 on our first attempt.

INSTALLED A COMMERCIAL SPRAY DRYER
Essential extended our facility and installed a state of the art spray dryer system to manufacture encapsulated flavours.

LAUNCHED OUR RANGE OF FOUNDATION FLAVOURS
Our customer told us they want an extensive range of flavours, that could be sampled rapidly, had all technical paper work completed, were in stock, had low MOQ and had value pricing – we listened and we delivered!

Our experienced Technical team understand how our flavours work and that the right profile is an important component of flavour selection however the critical aspect of flavour selection is how the flavour performs and tastes in your final product. When developing a flavour we always keep the final application in mind.
 
We create and can analyse emulsions, liquid and powder flavours, ensuring they are perfectly designed for their end application. We have the following equipment available on site to assist the flavour development process:
